GOOD USED CLOTHING WANTED FOR REFUGEES

Refugees, struggling to keep warm and to obtain employment, are in urgent need of used clothing, says “C.0.R.5.0. News.” “The New Zealander’s suit not good enough for the office is what they want, and must have, if they are to return to a normal life.” C.0.R.5.0.’s annual house-to-house appeal for used clothing is being made this Saturday. “C.0.R.5.0. News” says that the old clothes not good enough for the garden will not help the refugee obtain a new position; he needs the worn suit that he can, and will, patch and mend to keep himself warm and enable him to present reasonable appearance to an employer. “To a refugee clothing means much more than protection from the elements. Often it means a chance of getting employment. Too often the tatters worn by refugees are the only clothing they possess and when laundry day comes it means staying in bed.” says the news. Acute Shortage

There is an acute clothing shortage in refugee camps in Europe. Greece, Hong Kong, and the Middle East, as well as India, Korea and Indonesia. Men’s and boy’s clothing is needed

especially. Warm clothing is always needed —pullovers, underwear, and overcoats. Blankets and towels for hospitals, knitting wool for the women who knit garments for C.0.R.5.0. all year round, and

soft toys for children are also needed.

“C.0.R.5.0. cannot use hats, foundation garments, party wear, or handbags, and anything that won’t last at least another winter. Please don’t give high-heel shoes. All overseas agencies say that only flat (or Cuban) heel shoes can be used. Boy’s and men’s boots are very welcome, if they are sound and wearable—if, for instance, they won’t crack in the sole if bent backwards,” says the publication. “C.0.R.5.0. does not appeal for rags. It asks for good clothing which people can wear, and be proud of wearing. Although various rag collection companies throughout New Zealand leave sacks at gates for collection of rags, C.0.R.5.0. has never left sacks at gates,” it says.

“C.0.R.5.0. hopes that if there are any rags, to give away, they will be given to rag collectors in the sacks provided; and if there are any good clothes to give away they will be given to C.0.R.5.0.

“C.0.R.5.0. is confident that the magnificent response to the appeal for funds for World Refugee Year will continue and that people will double their giving with clothing also,” the publication says.
