WINNER FORFEITS PRIZE

Timaru Competitions Decision (New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, Sept. 15. A Christchurch competitor. Miss J. W. Wildermoth, forfeited her prize, valued at £25, as winner of the senior national dancing centennial championship at Timaru recently, because she failed to appear at a demonstration concert. The championship was decided on a points basis on two dances, a Highland Fling and a Seann Triubhais. The executive of the Timaru Competitions Society made this decision because it was a rule of the society that all winners were obliged to perform at a demonstration concert, the president (Mr J. E. Thompson) said. The rule had been prominently displayed in the syllabus and in the programme. It would be unfair to other competitors if the rule were not enforced. The question of the promotion of the next highest points-winner to first place would be determined by a committee meeting, he said.
