SPECIAL TRAINS FOR TEST
Big Response From Greymouth
Nine special trains have been arranged to cope with spectators for the third test at Christchurch on August 29. Trains from Ashburton, Timaru, Dunedin, Invercargill, Greymouth and Lyttelton were heavily booked, but bookings were slow, said the Railways Department District Traffic Officer (Mr C. J. Millin) yesterday.
Indications were that there would be a last-minute rush, he said The heaviest bookings, so far, had come from the Greymouth area Although there were two special trains on that line, the Railways Department had found it necessary to attach additional carriages. The usual Greymouth to Christchurch rail-car service had also been supplemented with another unit.
“It is expected that all trains will be filled to capacity,” said Mr Millin. “If they are booked out before the test, more units will be added.”
