PRACTICAL TRAINING FOR THE R.N.Z.A.F. ANTARCTIC FLIGHT.—The 10 members of the R.N.Z.A.F. Antarctic Flight are training in the Mount Cook area. These photographs show:—LEFT: Step cutting on a steep ice slope on the Tasman glacier. TOP RIGHT: Rope work on the glacier. From left are Leading Aircraftman G. A. Hodson, Flying Officer P. W. Tremayne, and Sergeant R. Fergusson. BOTTOM RIGHT: Instruction from Mr Harry Ayres, chief guide at Mount Cook, on step cutting and crampon work. The flight, which is led by Squadron Leader L. C. Jeffs, will finish its ground training today, and tomorrow the party will move down to the Unwin Hut to spend 10 days flying ski-equipped aircraft.
