Harewood Airport
Sir,—l had occasion to meet some business friends from Dunedin yesterday (Sunday) at 330 p.m. My friends required a cup of tea or coffee before proceeding north, but owing to hundreds of visitors to see the new terminal all the tables were full and a very long queue was waiting. My friends, therefore, had insufficient time to procure one before their plane departed. There appears no reason why visitors should not partake of refreshments, but I consider that the authorities should at least reserve two or three tables for plane passengers. —Yours, etc., SERVICE. July 13, 1959. [The airport manager (Mr A. I, R. Jamieson) replies: “The popularity the airport has enjoyed since the opening of stage I of the terminal building has been unprecedented. The problem of coping with these large numbers will be a continuing one until the whole building is available for occupancy and public areas considerably increased. The caterer has a most difficult task to cope in his present cramped temporary area, but when stage II is complete the coffee shop and restaurant will accommodate more than 200 persons.”]
