Icy Roads
Sir, —Very, commendably a year or two ago trees bordering the Main South road at Bankside were cut back Mr public Isafety. But rather strangely a two-mile Stretch ot trees just south of this was left untouched. Travelling south on Sunday I found ice right across the road for long stretches. Can we be informed why one hazard was'attended to and the other left?—Yours, etc., G. C. ARMITAGE. July 14, 1959. [The District Commissioner of Works (Mr A. E. Clark) said the section of road referred to was about two miles south of the Bankside station. Previously there had been very few coiriplaints regarding: thij section, but the position had now been reached where the Ministry of Works felt it necessary to request the Selwyn Plantation Board to cut back the trees in question.]
