Easily Fed A Pan American World Airways plane left Auckland on Thursday with a passenger that will not require feeding for a fortnight. The passenger, a tuatara on its way to the Calgary zoo. will be carried in a special box in a comfortably heated pressurised compartment on the flight deck of the aircraft. A tuatara eats little more than enough food to compensate for the energy expended in getting it—and when hand-fed, the energy involved is not very great There will be facilities at all stopping places along the route for handling and feeding this one if necessary. Invercargill Airport A decision to go ahead with investigating and planning for an extended runway at the Invercargill airport, suitable'for Viscount aircraft, has been made by the City Council. The council has considered a detailed report* from the Director of Civil Aviation • Sir Arthur Nevill) outlining his department’s requirements. For Viscounts, the department requires a runway of 5600 ft, with 2500 ft sealed to a width of 150 ft. The present runway is 4400 ft, with 4000 ft sealed to 150 ft width. Some strengthening of the existing surface would also be required.
