JET PLANES CRASH
Three U.S. Pilots Killed (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11.15 p.m.) MYRTLE BEACH (South Carolina), May 14. Navy divers attempted today to recover the bodies of three jet pilots whose planes crashed into the Atlantic. Major-General Daniel Jenkins, deputy commander of the 9th Air Force, will head an investigation into the crash early yesterday of the three Super Sabre jets. They were part of a night navigation and refuelling mission. Other members of the formation said the three fighters suddenly fell from the formation and hit the water , one by one. All exploded. No parachutes were seen. The Air Force said no foul play was suspected.
At the time of the crash the weather was clear at Myrtle Beach, but the Weather Bureau said there could have been a thundershower off the coast at the time, but there was “no way of knowing.’’
