DETECTION OF MISSILES
Undersea System To Be Tested
(N.Z Press Assoctatton—Coptinpht) NEW YORK, March 1. An underwater missile detection system which eventually would stretch from Hawaii to Hong Kong was scheduled to be tested this week. United Press International reported today from Honolulu. A reliable source said the electronic warning system would be in operation at Wake Island within three or four weeks, U.PX reported. The system will show exactly when and where a test missile launched from the Pacific Coast hits the water. The system designed for the Wake Island area is reported to consist of five 70-mile long cables radiating like epokes along the ocean floor. They will be capable of pin-pointing any missile falling within a 500-mile radius. Similar systems have been planned for Kwajelein and Midway, the source said.
