Mr Junge came across the buggy standing under some macrocarpa trees, on a property in the Russells Flat area. It was in first-class order, apart from slight damage to one wheel.
Mr Junge was delighted with his find, and purchased it for £4 10s, bringing it back to Christchurch, and depositing it on Mr Pate's lawn, where it has remained ever since. Mr Pate at first decided to fit the wheels of the buggy into a garden table he was building, but since then, he has changed his mind, and both Mr Junge and he are now faced with the problem of getting rid of this antique. They have tried the museum authorities, who listened to them sympathetically, but then pointed out that they really had nowhere to keep such a large exhibit The Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association was also approached, but has reserved Its decision. Meanwhile the buggy remains, where it has reposed for some months, on Mr Pate's back lawn.
