Horticultural Show Awards
The New Zealand Lily Society and the Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, have both been awarded gold medals for their entries in the Canterbury Horticultural Society’s show in Hagley Park.
These were the premier awards among several announced by the society. Others were:
Silver medals: Wilson Hardy Plant Nursery, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research Botany Division, North Canterbury Hospital Board, Conway Nursery, Orchid Begonia and Fern Society, Christchurch Cacti and Succulent Society. Bronze medals: Lyttelton Horticultural Society, New Brighton Hortcultural Society, Christchurch Dahlia Circle, Roseneath Nursery, Canterbury Rose Society, Canterbury Native Flora Society, Interflora, Christchurch Beautifying Award of merit: Canterbury Women’s Institute, W. R. Bestman, Agricultural Department, Horticultural Division, L. Clark, A. R. Freeman.
Certificate of merit; New Zealand Forest Service, Mairehau Horticultural Society, Shailer’s Nursery, J. A. Hollows, Timaru Horticultural Society, New Zealand Organic and Compost Society. The premier award in the decorative section at the show has been won, three days running, by Mrs R. Elcock. This is a fairly new award, for which entries are judged on their keeping qualties over the three days of the show.
