AIRSTRIP BUILT IN TWO DAYS

Flights At Kaiapoi Queen Carnival After two days’ solid work by a bulldoser and 20 voluntary helpers, a temporary airstrip has been built in the Pines Beach lagoon to enable joy-riding aircraft to help swell the Kaiapoi queen carnival funds. The airstrip was the idea of a Canterbury Licensed Victuallers’ Association committee, whose princess is competing in the Queen Carnival. Four aeroplanes touched down on the airstrip yesterday and the Civil Aviation Administration late last evening gave the “all clear” for it to be used by pas-senger-carrying aircraft. Two aeroplanes from the South Canterbury Aero Club will fly from Timaru to be used tor passenger flights during the weekend.
