BARNARDO SHIELD AWARD

Somerfield School Group

A Barnardo shield will be presented to Barnardo Helpers Leaguers of the Somerfield School today by Sir Clifton Webb, the former New Zealand High Commissioner in London. The shield is presented to any leaguer group raising more than £lOO in 12 months.

Last year, the school, which has about 100 active leaguers, raised £143, and was second only to St. Cuthbert’s College in Auckland. which gave £164. “There are 19 such shields now in the South Island, and this will be the fourth in Christchurch," the New Zealand representative of the league (Miss. V. Roche) said yesterday.

Miss Roche expressed gratitude to the helpers and to Misses E. Hayward and I. Boyle, at the Somerfield School. She also thanked headmasters and staffs of schools generally for their support.
