Rowling Eliminated From Singles

(New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, Jan. 22. The leading Nelson player, and former New Zealand champion, G D. Rowling, was eliminated from the open singles championships by Mrs G. Wadsworth, of Auckland, at the New Zealand croquet championships today. Mrs Wadsworth- was North Island open champion last year Rowling went down 26-10 in the first game, and 26-21 in the second. The handicap singes winner of last year, Ashley Heenan, ot Wellington, was eliminated in the first round of that event today by a junior Nelson player, Mrs L. McMurray, 26-16 Results:— Men’s Championship.—L. JT. Mitchell (Christchurch) beat L. Parcel! (Nelson). 26-7, 26-10; C. Ryan (Hutt) beat E. J. Barron (Invercargill), 2613, 26-7. Women’s Championship.—First life: Mrs Ogier (Wanganui) beat Mrs McKerron (Te Awamutu), 26-3; Mrs Barron (Invercargill) beat Mrs Lane (Nelson). 26-20; Mrs Hill (Wellington) beat Mrs Robertson (Westport), 26-10. Second life: Miss L. Manson (Nelson) beat Mrs Leitch (Wellington), 26-14; Miss Middlemiss (Pukekohe) beat Mrs Gilbert (Nelson). 26-14. Open Championship.—Mrs Wadsworth (Auckland) beat G. D. Rowling (Nelson), 26-10, 26-21; Mrs Jarden (Auckland) beat Mrs Nottle (Westport), 26-1. 26-8.
