Yachting TAURANGA CUP CONTEST

Mount Pleasant Does Well

A win in the second race of the Tauranga - Cup inter-club yachting contest and a third placing in the third race, brightened the chances of the Mount Pleasant skipper. J. Rountree, at Charteris Bay yesterday. Mount Pleasant gained an easy win l in the changeable and flukey wind- of the morning, and finished eight minutes clear of Tamaki (P. Tapper), winner of the first race. The result of the morning race hinges on a protset by Christchurch (L. McGrath), however, against Tamaki. It was alleged that the Tamaki boat breached the port starboard rule. In this event. Mount Pleasant was among the leading boats throughout and established a good lead at the start of the second round. She was not overtaken during the rest of the race. Rotorua (J. Farmer) opened up a good lead on the run during the first round of the third race, and at the leeward mark led from Paremata (M. Prince), Kohimaramara (W Townson), and Charteris Bay (R. Neale). Kohimaramara sailed right through to the front of the fleet on the beat back to the weather mark, however, and steadily increased this lead during the next round. Although Mount Pleasant and RotoruS were gaining on Kohimaramara sailing to the leeward mark in the third round, she increased her lead again on the beat back to the finish. Kohimaramara finished four minutes clear of Paremata. with Mount Pleasant seven seconds further back. Rotorua was next, only about one foot ahead of Christchurch at the finish, and these two competitors had a great duel from the leeward mark. This race was held in a light north-easterly breeze. - The paints for the two races were withheld until the protest had been decided. Results (subject to confirmation) were:— Second Race (starting time 11.30 a.m.). —Mount Pleasant (J. Rountree). Ihr 18min 19sec, 1; Tamaki (P. Tapper), Ihr 28min 27sec, 2; New Plymouth (W.
