Schools Or State Houses?
Sir, —What nonsense for “Parent” to state that, “the State is not obliged to provide everyone with a free house.” Tenants of State rental houses pay their taxes, too, and they pay rent which over the years amply repays the cost of the house. Therefore the house is not free, any more than a privately rented house. The selling of State rental houses by the previous Government at almost double the initial cost must have considerably counteracted the few rentals which had not been raised with the false market value of houses. Concerning the State education of children there is no fee to pay (like a rent), the public is taxed only. Birth control clinics should be established throughout the country, for healthier children, for a higher standard of living and thought, and for no State responsibility for overcrowded schools.—Yours, etc., LOGIC.
September 22, 1958. [The “ample repayment” is surely open to question.—-Ed., “The Press.”]
