Australia v. England ,
(N .Z Press Association—Copyrig ht) (Rec. 8 p.m.) PERTH. March 23. Batting with a pulled leg muscle, and using a runner, Vai Batty helped to put Australia in a strong position in the third women’s test match against England on Saturday.
She took part in two partnerships of 50 with Betty Wilson and Joyce Dalton before being caught by Olive Marshall for 70. She hurt a leg muscle early in her fifth wicket stand with Wilson, and Betty Newman was her runner. z After Wilson was dismissed for 43, Batty was joined by Dalton, and together they brought the score up to 263. when Batty was caught. She w-as at the wicket for 74 minutes, and hit six fours before being dismissed. • The English fast bowltrs, Hawes and Hegarty, tn a marathon performance, kept the pressure on the Australian players right through the day. At stumps, Australia had a first innings score of 280 for seven in reply to England’s first innings 253 for six declared.
