Duke’s Study To Be Altered

LONDON, March 23. The Duke of Edinburgh is having radical alterations made to his • study—known as the King’s study—in Buckingham Palace, according to the “Sunday Express” diarist. It is the first room to be affected by his personally supervised modernisation scheme for the private Royal apartments. A false ceiling, with a plain flat surface, is being fitted, removing from sight the ornately sculptured ceiling magnificently embossed with gold leaf which has been the pride of monarchs since the turn of the century, reported the diarist. Craftsmen regard the old ceiling as one of the finest of its type in the world.
