Sir Arthur Fadden Ends Leadership
BRISBANE. March 22. The Australian Federal Treasurer (Sir Arthur Fadden) announced last night his resignation from the Federal Country Party leadership. Sir Arthur Fadden said that he would call a meeting of his Federal colleagues next week. He thought that at this meeting his successor would almost certainly be the Minister of Trade (Mr John McEwen).
He would automatically become Deputy Prime Minister. He announced no final decision on his political future but he said: “I have said all the time it was doubtful whether I would be a candidate for the next election.” Sir Arthur Fadden has led the Country Parliamentary Party for 17 years.
