CORRUPTION IN VIETNAM
Former Minister Sentenced SAIGON, March 20. Ho Thong Minh, the Defence Minister in South Vietnam from 1954 to 1955, was today sentenced in his absence to 15 years hard labour for corruption. The Saigon Assizes Court also fined him a million piastres (about' £10,000) and ordered the confiscation of his personal property. Ho Thong Minh, who is now in France, was charged with ordering his ministry to pay 45 million piastres (about £450.000) to a French firm for 1500 prefabricated houses for the Army.
His predecessor had refused the houses as unsatisfactory, the Court was told.
