GREYMOUTH DOUBLE
Curtain RaiserJack Ashore Curtain Raiser, in the Greymouth Cup, and Jack Ashore, in the Paroa Hack Handicap, will be a popular combination with doubles investors at the Greymouth Jockey Club’s autumn meeting at Omoto today. The Greymouth Cup, which is the first leg, has drawn a capacity field and the stablemates, Jesse James and Sumner, and Red Elm await re-entry. Appreciate, a last-start winner over a mile and a quarter at Westport, and the top-weight, Tonka, are expected to be Curtain Raiser’s strongest opponents. There is little in the way of worthwhile recent form among those weighted below Jack Ashore in the second leg, and Uproar and Arabian Stream, the first two in the handicap, appeal as the most likely to test The favourite. Manift) and Red Dust have been scratched for the Novice Stakes, allowing Stentor, which has an alternative engagement in the Paroa Handicap, to re-enter the field. The only other scratching posted yesterday for the galloping events was Ration Time in the Miners’ Hack Handicap. She is an acceptor for the Champion Hack Handicap at Wingatui. The weather has been fine in Greymouth and the track is expected to e firm and fast.
