G. F. HUGHES TO RIDE TEAKA

The Auckland jockey G. F, Hughes has been engaged to ride Teaka in the Autumn Handicap at Trentham next week. Hughes has had a long-standing engagement to ride Teaka in one of his races. He was to have had the mount on the big Riccarton-trained Kurdistan gelding in the Trial Stakes at Trenthm in October, 1956, but when it rained and the track softened Teaka was- withdrawn. Hughes then accepted the mount on Turon, which won. Teaka has raced twice and has been runner-qp each time at Trentham this year. Liban beat him in the Wellington Racing Club Handicap in January, and Bali Ha’i was his conqueror in the St James’ Cup on February 8. Between those races, Teaka won the Midsummer Handicap on his home course. R. J. Skelton has ridden him in most of his races.
