Miss Elizabeth James, another elderly woman who lived with Miss Grace, is in Hastings Hospital with a suspected fractured skull and eye injuries. Her condition is serious. The driver, David Lester Haberfield, aged 24, of Willis street, Wellington, received slight concussion and shock.

The impact snapped the heavy pole at the base and brought down the power lines.
