CAR HITS POLE ON MAIN ROAD
One Passenger Killed; Another Badly Hurt (New Zealand Press Association) HASTINGS, February 16. When a car struck a power pole on the main highway 14 miles south of Hastings, at 2.15 p.m. yesterday a woman passenger was killed and another woman passenger was seriously injured. The dead woman was
Miss Alice Grace* aged 72, of Vic- , toria avenue, Palmerston North.
Miss Elizabeth James, another elderly woman who lived with Miss Grace, is in Hastings Hospital with a suspected fractured skull and eye injuries. Her condition is serious. The driver, David Lester Haberfield, aged 24, of Willis street, Wellington, received slight concussion and shock.
The impact snapped the heavy pole at the base and brought down the power lines.
