CAR STRIKES BRIDGE
Six Injured (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 16. Six persons were seriously injured when the car in which they were travelling struck a wing of a bridge spanning Dunnes creek, about half a mile west of Kaponga, on the Stratford-Awatuna highway late on Friday. Those involved in the accident were the driver, George William Osman; his wife, Mrs Edna May Osman, and their young daughter, Joyce Osman, Eltham road, Awatuna; and Mrs Hazel Sylvia Furze and her son, Kevin Alfred Furze, of Lower Oeo road, Awatuna, and Rosemary Scott, of Eltham road, Awatuna. Mr and Mrs Osman and their daughter were admitted to the Stratford Hospital, and the other to the Hawera Hospital. The party had been to a school picnic at Stratford and was returning home to Awatuna. Late tonight there was no change in the condition of Joyce Osman. Kevin Furze’s condition was reported to have improved sfightly. / The condition of the other patients was satisfactory.
