Sick Man Kept In “Deep-Freeze”

A man whose brain was seriously damaged in an accident is being kept in “deep-freeze” to increase his chance of survival, according to the "Daily Express” today.
Herbert Merrill, aged 43, of Old Trafford, Manchester, is unconscious in Middlesex Hospital, and surrounded by ice to keep his body temperature low. A fan keeps a draught blowing, and he is covered with wet sheets instead of blankets.
Hibernation, as doctors call the treatment, reduces the vitality of the body and keeps it just ticking over.
