Death Of President Of Rumania
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) BUCHAREST, January 7. The Rumanian President, Dr. Petru Groza, died today, aged 72, after a long, illness.
He was the’ man who inaugurated the Communist regime in his country and who, as Prime Minister in 1947, forced King Michael to abdicate the throne and leave the country. He came to power in 1945 when he was made Prime Minister, under Soviet pressure, after Rumania’s conclusion of an armistice with the Allies.
In 1952 he was appointed president of the Presidium of the Grand National Assembly.
