LADY TWEEDSMUIR IN CANADA

Guest Of Teachers’ Association (By SUSAN VAUGHANI LONDON. Lady Tweedsmuir, one of the most attractive of Conservative women members of Parliament, recently became the second woman ever to be chosen to move the House of Commons Address of thanks to the Queen at the State Opening of Parliament. This week she has another honour. She will speak at the dinner of the Canadian Teachers’ Association in Toronto, and is the third visitor ever invited *o this function. Lady Tweedsmuir has strong ties with Canada. She is the daughter-in-law of Lord Tweedsmuir, the novelist John Buchan, who was Governor-General of Canada until his death in 1940. Her husband, the present Lord Tweedsmuir, was once a fur-trader for the Hudson’s Bay Company in Canada. He speaks Eskimo. Previous Visits

Lady Tweedsmuir has visited Canada several times before. Two years ago she was forced to walk nine miles through deep snow in Northern British Columbia when her jeep was bogged down in the snow.

Hers is a remarkably busy life She has been a member of Parliament for South Aberdeen for 11 years, and is a member of the Advisory Council of the 8.8. C. She has two families to look after. By her first husband, who was killed in the war. she had two daughters. She has another daughter by her present husband Her favourite recreations, wnen she can find time, are swimming, stalking and photography.
