DEPORTATION OF AMERICAN
Recommendation By Magistrate (Neu> Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. October 22. An American who has been in New Zealand for eight years since ihis ship sailed while he was under arrest ashore for assault was today told by Mr H. Jenner Wily. S.M., in the Auckland Magistrate's Court, that the Court would recommend the Minister of Policei to deport him “in the interests of the country.” The accused. Gordon Ellis Mansfield, aged 32. a labourer, pleaded guilty to being a registered alien and failing to notify his change ■ of abode.
The police prosecutor (Mr H. L Edwards) said Mansfield changed his address and disappeared after last November when he was convicted of theft and ordered to pay £37 restitution.
' The Magistrate fined Mansfield £lO and ordered immediate payment in default 21 days* gaol. He added that he would send a certificate to the Minister with a deportation recommendation.
