HARBOUR BOARDS' CONFERENCE

Entertainment For Delegates’ Wives While delegates are attending the twenty-fifth annual conference of the Harbours Association of New Zealand in Christchurch this week, their wives will be invited to take part in an attractive programme of entertainment. This afternoon a sightseeing bus trip through the city and suburbs, with afternoon tea at New Brighton. has been arranged. Delegates’ wives have been invited to attend the opening of the conference tomorrow morning, and in the afternoon they will be taken for a bus trip round the Port Hills and Lyttelton Harbour, with afternoon tea at the Sign of the Takahe. A social evening will be held at the Winter Garden in the evening.

The Lyttelton Harbour Board has arranged an all-day outing ■’round the gorges” on Thursday with morning tea at Rangiora. lunch at Ashley Gorge, and afternoon tea at Darfield.

On Friday a visit to the Christchurch Botanic Gardens and the Art Gallery, with morning tea in the gardens’ tea kiosk, is planned for the visitors. A farewell cocktail party will be held at the Winter Garden in the evening.

Mrs W. Tisch presided at the October meeting of the RedcliffsMount Pleasant sub-centre of the Red Cross Society. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Lady Wigram. Mrs Tisch thanked all who had assisted at the successful local Red Cross appeal when £54 was raised for funds. Rosters were drawn up for members preparing vegetables for the Good Neighbour Service during November, and for hospital visiting at Burwood. A quantity of clothing, knitted and sewn, for young children, and comforts for elderly patients was handed in. New material for making up was distributed.
