Brighton Police Officer Charged

Scotland Yard detectives probing allegations of bribery and corruption in Brighton's 280-m ember police force today arrested a de-| tective-sergeant. Soon afterwards. Detective-Ser-geant Trevor Heath appeared before the Brighton Magistrates. He was charged with attempting to obtain £5O from a man named Allan Royd Bennett “as a reward for showing favour to him in relation to affairs of the Crown.” Heath was remanded in custody until October 26. Bail was opposed on four grounds: the gravity of the charge, the possibility of witnesses being int rfered with, police inquiries were still con-j tinning, and further charges were, expected to be made. Lord Norrie’s Seat in Lords. — Two former Governors-Generai of New Zealand. Lord Newall and Lord Frey berg, are to introduce Lord Norrie, the recentlycreated peer, when he takes his seat in the House of Lords for the first time on October 30. — London, October 20.
