“N.Z. HOSPITABLE TO GOLFERS” Peter Thomson’s Views On Trip

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Oct. 20. More of Australia’s leading golfers, both professional and amateur, should play in the New Zealand national championships, the champion golfer, Peetr Thomson, said in a Melbourne newspaper article yesterday. *T know of no more hospitable place in the world for visiting golfers than our near Commonwealth neighbour.” Thomson said.

“The place bubbles over with a welcome for anyone with a bag of clubs and a friendly smile.’’ Thomson said that after eight visits to New Zealand he found each trip happier and more heart-warming than the previous trip. Thomson said that a fair example of New Zealanders* hospitality was that at this year’s New Zealand championship five international visitors were accommodated in private homes and given every possible comfort.

He said that this year’s open winner. Kel Nagle, had won himself a place in the hearts of New Zealand golfers. His clever and resourceful play under most difficult conditions had earned him a high reputation as a golfer and a sportsman. “He has played many fine rounds in his career, but I doubt if he has performed a greater feat than his final 73 last Saturday, which won him his first national title,” Thomson said.
