HAREWOOD CLUB CONSTITUTION

Annual Meeting Adoption

The new constitution of the Harewood Golf Club was adopted at the annual meeting of the club at the course yesterday. The constitution, which has as its main object the playing of golf by young people up to the age of 21, provides that the club will be used primarily for young members for all time. They will have the same rights as adult members.

Mr A. R. Blank reported that the membership of young people was now more than 300 and that adult membership would be restricted to 110. The meeting was held in the new club house built by members and friends within the last six months. The building is of wooden construction, and it is planned to double the size of the existing building of 30ft by 12ft in the future. Many of the materials for the building were given by former members of the old club and present members. Officers were elected as follows:—, patron, the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.); president, Mr A. R. Blank; club captain, Mr R. Hope; secretary, Mr A. Palmer; treasurer, Mr J. Garland; vice-presidents, Messrs S. Shipley, G. Humphries, and W Cleland; committee, Messrs V. Smith, I. Carlisle, H. Reynolds. D. Frost. F. Busch. W. Percival, and H. E. Langford; auditor. Mr J. L. Kerr; delegate to Canterbury Provincial Golf Association. Mr H. £. Langford; women’s committee: captain. Mrs W. Percival; committee. Mesdames V. Smith. R. Hope, Basset, Parsonson, Rooks, Spicer. Carlisle. and Mickleson.

The junior committee, representing the various secondary schools, will be elected at the next meeting. The boys’ committee will comprise two members from Boys’ High School, Christ’s College, St. Andrew’s College, and St. Bede’s College and three other members representing other schools. The girls’ committee will comprise two members from Rangi-ruru. St. Margaret’s College. Girls’ High School, and three other members representing other schools. Each committee will elect its own officers.

Travellers’ Tourney

The Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association held its annual tournament at the Templeton links at the week-end. Results were:— Championship: H. W. Lawrence. 82; H. M. Elliott. 82. Lawrence won on a count-back. George Humphreys Cup (best nets): M. Meikle. 87. 17—70; G. Kelsey, 87. 16—71. Ayres King Cup (best net 18-24 handicap): P. Findlay, 100, 24—76. Best net score—Travellers’ section: R. K. Wood. 74. Warehousemen’s section: W. Princip. 79. Club section: D. Glubb. 77; S. Cawtheray. 77. Glubo won on the count-back. Four-ball bogey: H. M. Ashburton Beals Richmond Hill

Ashburton beat Richmond Hill in a 4-ball best-ball and singles match at Ashburton yesterday. Ashburton won the four-ball best-ball by six matches to nil. In the Singles Ashburton won eight matches and Richmond Hill six.
