CRISIS IN FRANCE
Schuman May Seek Power
(Rec. 9 p.m.) PARIS, October 19. Mr Robert Schuman, the Popular Republican (Catholic) leader, today agreed to try to find a basis to form a government which would receive a majority in Parliament.
Mr Schuman said after talks with President Coty that he had agreed to conduct a technical mission to find an economic and financial programme which would receive support in Parliament.
He will report back to President Coty on Monday. The President conducted talks with several party leaders today in a bid to end the 19-day-old Cabinet crisis and to find a candidate to head France’s 24th postwar government.
