FREE TRADE AREA
Commonwealth Attitude
LONDON. October 19. The Commonwealth countries wanted Britain to join the proposed European free trade area the President of the Board of Trade (Sir David Eccles) told the British -Cotton Board conference at. Harrogate, last night. “They told us so without a single dissident voice at the recent conference in Canada of the Commonwealth Finance Ministers,” he said.
It would be wrong to judge such great projects as the tree trade area and European common market simply from their economic impact, he said.
“If we washed our hands of the common market and stood aside, then the division of . Europe into separate and divergent camps would follow.”
