HOUSE FIRE AT AMBERLEY
Brigade Makes Good Save A fire which broke out in a house on the- Main North road. Amberley, about 11.45 a.m. on Saturday, caused considerable damage to three rooms and furiiishings. Members of the Ambferley Volunteer Fire Brigade prevented the fire from spreading throughout the house and possibly to neighbouring houses. The house, which is occupied by Mr P. Birchfield and his family, is part of a State housing block. All the occupants of the house left about half air hour before the fire started. Passers-by saw smoke coming through the roof, and when the brigade arrived the fire had a good hold. Within 10. minutes, however, the fire was under confrol. The linings of the walls and the furniture of the three rooms worst effected we.e severely damaged, and some of the rafters were badly charred.
The fire is believed to have started in the hot water cylinder cupboard. At art from small grass fires, the fire vas the first attended by the Amberley brigade since its formatior about six months ago.
