BORSTAL BOYS RECAPTURED
Escapers Found By Police
(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, July 7. The two escaped Borstal youths were caught by Invercargill police during the week-end. They were Brian Leslie Paris, aged 19, who leapt from the southbound express on Thursday night, and Brian Alfred Wilson, aged 18, who escaped from a Borstal Farm more than a week ago. Paris was recaptured near Mokotua, several miles south of where he leapt from the moving train.
Police received a message late yesterday that a Mokotua house had been entered and some food was missing. Two cars immediately left for the area, and just after 2 o’clock this morning, Paris was seen and caught by police in a patrol car. Wilson, who escaped eight days ago, made his first move on Friday night. He had been hiding until then and police had no clues to his whereabouts. A truck was stolen from Waimatuku on Friday night and was later found, abandoned near Riverton. At about 5 o’clock yesterday morning, the caretaker of the Riverton racecourse saw Wilson and notified the police. Both youths had little chance of breaking out of Southland. All roads from the province have been sealed since Wilson escaped.
