NO MAGISTERIAL APPOINTMENT
Part-Time Service In Christchurch
No additional magistrates will be appointed in Christchurch to cope with the increase in the number of cases being heard before the Magistrate’s Court, the Secretary of Justice <Mr S. T. Barnett) said in Christchurch yesterday. Mr Barnett said he had conferred with city magistrates and it had been decided that the position could be met without extra appointments. “Mr Rex C. Abernethy will return on July 1 and Mr E. A. Lee, of Timaru, will give one week a month of his time to assist in Christchurch.
“Mr F. F. Reid will also give part-time service and we £eel we will be able to keep abreast with the work on hand,” said Mr Barnett.
Mr Lee has assisted in the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court previously while magisterial strength has been reduced, but he is expected now to assist regularly.
