FIRST LEG AT AWAPUNI
Four Form Horses Engaged “The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, March 22. Finito, The Wake, Honest John and Berne comprise a group of form horses likely to furnish the winner of the King George Handicap, the first leg of the double on the opening day of the Manawatu Racing Club’s autumn meeting at Awapuni tomorrow. After rain during the week the ground has eased, but the forecast is for fair weather tomorrow and the going should be ideal. The second leg is the Johnston Memorial, in which Gay Jinx, Solepic and Royal Zorra are favoured after the excellent form they showed at Trentham. The race for the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes will create considerable interest. Confined to two-year-olds and run over seven furlongs, it has not drawn any of the season’s star juveniles but, with Imitation, Mindanao, Miss Able. Tavair, Crimson. Sharp, and Major Effort engaged. there is every prospect of a keen contest. Imitation, Miss Able and Crimson have the best form, each having two wins, but Mindanao has shown considerable promise in her three races, in each of which she finished second. and after her unlucky second to Tawhiao in the Plunket Handicap at Trentham. she is expected to show up favourably tomorrow.
