Coupon-Free Sale Of Petrol

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, March 10. A mile-long queue of cars formed outside a London garage today when news spread that it was selling surplus petrol stocks free of coupons. The garage owner, Mr Maurice Welt, sold £9OO worth of petrol (about 2200 gallons) in a few hours. His usual Sunday turnover is about £4O. “I was fed up with not doing any business,” he explained. "My stocks are about 8000 gallons—all surplus. I had it before rationing started.” The police interviewed Mr Welt tonight.
