The New Zealand pacer General Grattan, driven by L. Porter, finished fourth in the Invitation Handicap, run at Richmond Park, Fremantle, on Saturday evening. The race was won by the outsider, Rhoda’s Gift, from Anthony Hall and Village Chief, in a photo finish. The South Australian horse. Star Stranger, and Greek Brigade, of New Zealand, looked well-placed until the straight, when they both faded badly. Negative Swabs The New Zealand Trotting Conference has received advice that the swabs taken from Shantung and Commander Spangle at Hutt Park on March 2 and* from Peace Pipe and Blue Jay at Invercargill on the same date have proved negative.
