POSITIVE SWAB OF TROTTER

No Action Against Connexions (New Zealana Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 22. The inquiry into the positive swab secured from Scotch Glen after winning the Mimihau Handicap at the Wyndham Trotting Club’s meeting on November 24 was concluded at Invercargill today. The objection against D. Todd, trainer of Scotch Glen, and the owner, Mr A. Todd, was dismissed. The resumed meeting of the stipendiary Stewards officiating at the Wyndham meeting.. Messrs L. A. Butterfield, of Christchurch (chairman), J. B. Scott, of Gore (deputy-stipendiary steward) and W. McDonald (club's representative) was held at Invercargill this evening. The report of the stewards said: “The evidence before this inquiry discloses that this horse was suffering from a cut on the upper lip. and that prior to the race Mr Todd had applied an ointment which contained the drug found in the saliva. As it is uncertain what quantity was applied and how much the horse may have taken orally, there must be a doubt as to whether or not in this instance this drug was capable of affecting the horse in the terms of rule 345(5), and therefore the doubt must be resolved in favour of Mr Todd and the objection dismissed. “Though this objection has been dismissed in this instance. Mr Todd however has been warned that a serious view will be taken should he again produce a horse in similar circumstances."
