The big fields engaged on the opening day of the Egmont Racing Clubs meeting include a number of horses which have shown good form in recent starts, and in most events the betting is likely to be well spread There is a strong representation of northern stables. The double is on the Egmont Cup and the Flying Handicap Maquana has been racing consistently lately, and he should have a chance to regain form in the first leg. The promoted hack, Agathis, which raced promisingly at Bulls last week, mav be an improver to complete the double Selections:— 11.2 a.m.—Ohawe Hack Hurdles: Arabian Chief, Champion, Massana. 11.47 a.m.—Tokaora Hack Handicap: First Division: Ben Nevis, Sir Laurence. Second Division: Barrico. Esparto. 12.31 p.m.—Juvenile Handicap: Geta, Terrore Rosso, Philaso. 1.22 p.m.—Egmont Cup: Maquana, Salhia, Sea Hornet. 2.12 p.m.—Trial Plate: Yardgar, Quicksand, Adust. 3.7 p.m.—Flying Handicap: Agathis. Foy, Demolition. 3.52 p.m.—Whareroa Trial—First Division: Dowbred, Earl's Court. Second Division: Omatere, Hibiscus. 4.37 p.m.—Waipapa Hack Handicap: Whioh'au, Educated, Sweet Moments.
