CANTERBURY EDUCATION BOARD SOCKBURN SCHOOL ELECTION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE WHEREAS a new school district known at the present time as the Sockburn School District was formed in the Christchurch Combined Group of Wards of the Canterbury Education District as from February 4, 1957. in accordance with the boundaries described below, the Board, in pursuance of the powers conferred by “The Education Act.” 1914, and its amendments, hereby directs that a Public Meeting of Householders be held in the Sockburn School on Tuesday, February 12. at 7.30 p.m., for the purpose of electing a school committee. It is further directed that as the anticipated enrolments when the school opens on February 4. 1957. will be more than 200 the number of members to be elected shall be NINE. The electors shall be Householders as defined by the Act and Householders should send to the SecretaryManager. Canterbury Education Board. P.O. Box 349. Christchurch, in writing on or before ' Tuesday, February 5, not later than 8 p.m., the names of persons being householders nominated by them to serve on the Committee. Such nominations must be signed by the Proposer and by the Candidate, and must be in the form set forth in the Third Schedule to the Act or to the effect thereof. Nomination forms may be obtained at the Board’s Office, or at the school. The Committee elected will hold office until April, 1957. “Householder” in relation to the election of members of a School Committee means:— (a) Every adult male or female person who has for the period of three months before the day of election RESIDED in any dwellinghouse within the school district as OWNER or TENANT thereof; and (b) The father, wherever resident, or, if dead or absent from New Zealand, the guardian or other person, wherever resident, who has the actual custody of any child who will be attending the new school at the beginning of the new term. (c) The husband or wife of any person referred to in paragraphs (a 1 or (b). BOUNDARIES OF SCHOOL DISTRICT

From the junction of a point opposite Canterbury street on the southern side of the Main Trunk Railway line in an easterly direction to the junction of Haytons road: thence southwards along Haytons road to Middle Lincoln road: thence south westerly to the junction with Halswell Junction road; thence along Halswell Junction road to the Southbridge branch railway; thence along the Southbridge branch railway in a northerly direction to the Hornby Town Boundary; thence along the Hornby Town Boundary in a southeasterly direction to a point about 10 chains from Springs road; thence in a line parallel with Springs road to Neil street (at a point about 10 chains from the corner of Springs road); thence along Neil street in a north-westerly direction taking in both sides of the road to the Main South road; thence in a westerly direction along the Main South road taking in both sides of the road to Canterbury street: thence along Canterbury street taking in both sides of the road to the junction with the Main trunk Railway Line.
