Favourites Miss Meeting

Tess and Pink Rose, two members of J. E. Shaw’s Riccarton team, were unable to fulfil their engagements on the first day of the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s summer meeting yesterday because the float taking them to Washdyke broke down. Tess was engaged in the Christmas Handicap, the first leg of the double. Off-course investments on Mr G. R. Macdonald’s Ruthless mare amounted to £2789, £1617 in doubles. Pink Rose was the pre-post favourite for the Stafford Stakes, No. 1. Off-fourse investments on her totalled £537.
