FRESH BREAD ON MONDAY

SUBURBAN GROCERS TO OPEN Fresh bread will be available in Christchurch suburbs on Monday, December 31, although central Christchurch grocers will close over the whole period. The president of the Canterbury Master Grocers’ Association (Mr J. A. Henderson) said yesterday that the association has recommended their membership of approximately 500 to observe the holidays set down in the award (January 1 and 2). “Bread will be baked on Monday, but there will be no fresh bread on Wednesday,” said Mr Henderson. “This leaves most grocers no alternative but to open on December 31 to serve their customers.”
