SEABEAU WINS AT CAULFIELD (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, December 26. The New Zealand-bred colt. Seabeau, made a sensational turf debut* at Caulfield today when he won the Holiday Stakes, easing up, by eight lengths in near record time. I Seabeau, a half-brother by Able' Seaman to the brilliant New Zea-1 land galloper, Coleridge, cost his: owner, Mr T. G. Logan, 1300 guineas! in New Zealand as a yearling. Although the opposition was only moderate, the impressive manner in which Seabeau won today stamped him as an outstanding two-year-old. His time, 59 7-10 sec for five furlongs, was 7-10ths of a second outside the Caulfield record. Seabeau was widely tipped as a coming champion and started at odds-on. The former New Zealand horse. Sir William, carried 9-12 over one mile for a close third in the Malvern Handicap. Five horses flashed past the post almost in line at the finish, and in a photo-finish the race went to Lady .Chloe, which finished brilliantly wide out to beat Cambuse by a head, with Sir Williarm favourite at 2/1, a short half-head away third. Sir William was having only his second start since his spring campaign. Baystone Wins In Sydney today Baystone, at 5/1. finished brilliantly and scored by half a head from the heavily backed 7/4 favourite. Prince Delville, in the Summer Cup at Randwick. Persian Link (33/1) was three-quarters of a length away third. The finish had the crowd of 40,000 on their toes, as, 100 yards from the post, there were three horses— Persian Link, Ashwood, and Prince Delville—almost in line, with Baystone finishing strongly on the outside. Prince Delville forced his way through to get a slight advantage right on the line, but Baystone finished top strongly. Although he won by a vfery narrow margin most of the punters considered he had scored. Baystone was the Summer Cup favourite for some time before his trainer Jack Green announced a change of plans, and there was then huge backing for the gelding to win the Villiers Stakes. Baystone could finish only third in the Villiers Stakes and it was only to keep faith with the public, who had backed him heavily for the Summer Cup, that the owners, Messrs R. A. and N. Bumf, and Green, decided to start Baystone today. The former New Zealand stayer, Cambridge, starting at 8/1, ran last in the field of nine. Results at Caulfield;— HOLIDAY STAKES, Of £1250.
