No Late Night This Week Housewives will find buying supplies for the New Year holidays a more difficult task than it was for Christmas, as shops will be closed for four consecutive days. Shops wall open today, but Friday will not be a late shopping night. Grocers, general retailers, and chemists will close at 5.30 p.m. tomorrow, and will reopen on Wednesday, January 2. Butchers, who will close at 5 p.m. tomorrow, will also reopen on January 2. Although all shops except fruiterers will be closed on Monday, December 31, bakers will bake bread for that day. Fresh bread will.be again available on Thursday. January 3. The produce markets will be open on December 31. Shops in New Brighton will observe Saturday as a shopping day and a late shopping night, but will not open until tomorrow. They will also be closed on Monday, New Year’s Day, and January 2. Normal postal services will be available from tomorrow until Saturday, and will be resumed again on January 3. The Money Order and Savings Bank Branch will not be open on Friday evening. There will be normal attendance at the Chief Post Office in Christchurch on New Year’s Eve
