WESTPORT CLUB

DECISIVE WIN FOR HONEST CHARLES

“The Press” Special Service WESTPORT, December 26. The Westport-owned and trained Honest Charles gained one of the easiest wins in the history of the race when he outclassed the Westport Handicap field, the main event at the Westport Trotting Club’s meeting today. He began well from 36 yards and was taken to the lead after three furlongs. He coasted home to win as he liked. He is to race next at the Canterbury Park meeting next week. Honest Charles is trained and was driven by K. J. Powell, who also drove the Westport-owned Our Mary to win the Roche Handicap and another member of his team, Spiral, which won the President’s Handicap. In the Roche Handicap three dividends were paid in a seven-horse field because of some confusion about the scratching of Clarine. The meeting opened in heavy rain. There was a poor attendance and the track was soft. The double, Honest Charles and Nightwind, returned £49 2s for £l. The totalisator handled £13,392 15s, compared with £22,709 last year.
