Experts Differ Over Point Of Etiquette
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, December 19. Which is correct on a Christmas card from a married couple—“ From Joan and John,” or “From John and Joan’’? This question, asked by several newspaper readers, has not yet been given a satisfactory answer. Three leading authors of books on etiquette disagree. Mrs Marie Bolton, author of the “Complete Book of Etiquette,” said: “Joan’s name comes first,” but, she added: “Of Bourse, quite a few eminent people reverse the order.” Miss Agnes Miall, author of “Modern Etiquette,” was emphatic that the woman’s name comes first, and Mrs Norah Bickley, author of “The Manual of Modern Etiquette,” said that the husband’s name comes first on cards to joint friends, but the wife’s name comes first on cards sent to people who are primarily her frienda.
