HOLIDAY MILK PROBLEMS
PUBLIC ASKED FOR CO OPERATION EARLY NOTIFICATION OF NEEDS In two weeks of the holiday period last year, 25,296 pints of milk were returned unnecessarily to the two milk treatment stations in Christchurch. Yesterday, the secretary of the Canterbury Milk Vendors’ Association (Mr L. M. Hall) said his association was concerned at the number of persons who went away for holidays without notifying milk vendors. Mr Hall said this had caused a loss to vendors, and was a waste of public money. Residents were requested to notify vendors 24 hours ahead if they wished to cancel orders, because the vendor had to make his order from the station at that time.
Nearly 40,000 cards had been distributed by the association in Christchurch to ascertain cream requirements, and whether customers would be away for holidays, said Mr Hall. It was honed that those who had not filled in those cards would do so immediately.
Mr Hall said he also hoped that consumers would make New Year resolutions to wash and put out bottles daily and not use them for other purnoses. Bottles not returned became a loss to the vendor, and if any persons had surplus bottles, they should put them out.
